The report, the portrait (feature), the obituary, and the press documentary are some of the new journalistic genres, successfully mastered by the students of the School of Advanced Studies in Journalism. All of them were studied, for five days, during the Long Articles course, held by Alina Radu, director of the publication "Ziarul de Garda". The young people tested their own observation, witnessed an event, luxuriously painted a portrait of a person, and learned to write an obituary.
The course began with an introduction to the genres of journalism that fall into the category of "long articles". The students found out that there are several types of reports, they learned the principles and structure of this type of material, and the instructor drew their attention to the fact that the most important - and mandatory - a feature of a report in the presence of the journalist on site. At the same time, Alina Radu wanted to mention that, unlike the news, in the report, the journalist can use various literary techniques to describe the atmosphere as clearly and in detail as possible. The practical part of the course followed, and the disciples had to make a report, a portrait, and an obituary.
How are ideas for reporting "born", where do we find topics and how to write differently, interesting and captivating? To find out the answers to these questions, Alina Radu invited to discuss two of the journalists specialized in writing reports and portraits: Polina Cupcea, one of the founders of the “People and Kilometers” portal, and Dorin Galben, 10 TV presenter. The guests, who are also two of the successful graduates of the School of Advanced Studies in Journalism, shared with students interesting details from their professional experience, discussed how an idea becomes the subject of a report, and pointed out the importance of observation and details.
Specializing in -articles written in the storytelling technique -, Polina Cupcea mentioned that a report or a portrait must be written in a simple language, but attractive to the public. Get out of the way, go to the villages, talk to ordinary people.
The training process at the School of Advanced Studies in Journalism; the complexity, variety, and intensity of the courses offered over ten months; the projects that could benefit the students of the 15th promotion of ȘSAJ; employment opportunities after graduation; admission criteria in the academic year 2020-2021 - these and other topics were discussed by the participants in the Open Days, organized in an online format, on June 18 and 19.
